Wedding Registry: Acceptable Etiquette

It tends to be awkward for couples to inform guests where they are registered and what sorts of gifts they favor. You don’t want to come across as rude or seem like gifts are the only thing you care about! There are appropriate and effective ways to politely let guests know where you are registered, which I am going to share with all of you!!!

The first way you can get the word out on where you’re registered is by posting on a website. This will allow you to communicate what stores you would prefer guests shop at for your wedding present without being abrupt. The second way to deliver your registry information is through word of mouth. Tell family members and close friends what stores/gifts are your top preferences, so they can spread the news to guests. Word of mouth is a quick and efficient way to spread information, and by having your family and close friends in charge of telling guests, you won’t have to worry about offending anyone!

It is NOT polite to ask for cash, even if you and your spouse would prefer money as a gift above everything else. Therefore, if this is the case, then there are two options:

1. Sign up for a registry that allows you to check cash as an option, so you are not asking guests to give you money

2. Register in department stores (like Bloomingdale’s), which allow for full refunds of wedding gifts. (ex: exchanging a cake cutter for a pair of shoes)
