The Most Important Meal of Your Day


You’ve been told countless times that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and how good it is for weight loss. It’s true but many times we restrict ourselves to the same breakfast foods over and over and get bored. Breakfast foods are some of my favorite foods because who doesn’t love oatmeal, eggs, waffles, and bagels. Here are some ways to get the most of the early mornings and continue losing weight.

1. Portions

It’s important to keep your breakfast calories around 300 and to have some of the main food groups like carbs, calcium, and fruit. You can easily combine them with one bowl of multi grain high fiber cereal with strawberries and low fat milk. Other ideas are a scrambled egg on whole wheat toast with fruit salad and a cup of low fat milk.

2. Eat Early

On the weekdays try to eat as soon as you wake up because your body just went through 12 hours without you eating anything (assuming you stopped eating after dinner). This is especially important if you workout in the morning so you can get fuel for the activity  and prevent binge eating later.

3. Don’t Skip

Skipping breakfast will in theory help you skip calories but not all calories are bad for you. It’s been proven that people who eat breakfast can lose more weight overall than those who skipped breakfast. It will rev up your metabolism and give you energy throughout the day.

4. Smoothies

If you need to eat on the go then make a smoothie before you go to bed and put it in the fridge. Throw in some fruits like strawberries and bananas, protein powder, and Greek yogurt. You can add flax seed oil, peanut butter, and whatever other fruits you love.

5. Get Creative With Carbs

If burritos are your thing then make a breakfast burrito with eggs, cheese, and vegetables. Love breakfast sandwiches? Buy some 100 calories flat bread and add avocado, egg, cheese, and tomato. Make a bowl of oatmeal and add blueberries and peanut butter for protein. There are endless ways to add your required foods in creative ways.

There are always easy ways to make your favorite breakfast foods healthier and still enjoy them. The endless possibilities are crucial to weight loss because it will prevent binge eating later and speed up your metabolism. Keep working towards your weight loss goals but don’t sacrifice the most important meal of your day.
