A big thank you to everyone who attended our Jamaica Destination Wedding Showcase at Manhattan Penthouse last night! It was a huge success and we had such an amazing time learning all that Jamaica has to offer.

As destination weddings continue to be on the rise, we wanted to get the inside scoop from the best of the best.

Hotels and resorts in the area including The Tryall Club, Grand Palladium Resort & Spa and Iberostar all noted Jamaica is the perfect place to have a destination wedding. Conveniently located to the US, it’s sunsets and idyllic scenery make for a perfect backdrop for any couple to celebrate their love. Half Moon, A Rock Resort noted they’re seeing lots of color at their weddings and highlighted Emerald, Pantone’s Color of the Year, as a popular choice.

Cakes, of course are always a highlight of any wedding and Palermo’s Custom Cakes & Bakery said they’re seeing a lot of “naked” cakes at weddings today — a.k.a. cakes without frosting accompanied with accents of gorgeous fresh flowers to compliment the bride & groom’s colors and wedding aesthetic. They also receive requests for rainbow-colored cakes and offer ruffled fondant for texture and design.

Last night we had the pleasure of seeing celebrity renowned makeup artist, Sonia Rodriguez, at work making ladies lashes luscious at her lash bar and doing hair & makeup consultations for our brides. She said blue eye shadow and stripped lashes are becoming more popular as they reveal a more natural lash look. For a full but less dramatic look, she suggests layering 2-3 natural lashes. Sonia believes loose braids are a perfect accent to any hair style and gives it a romantic feel. Check out Sonia at work!

We also were honored to have the Jamaica wedding dress designer and winner of Mission Catwalk, Shenna Carby. Shenna recommends light dresses when having a destination wedding. The lighter materials, such as cotton or lace make it easier for your skin to breathe and is comfortable if you sweat. Her dresses looked gorgeous last night!
